Well as much as Phil Hellmuth wanted to win his first WPT title it wasn’t to be. The 11 WSOP bracelet holder was on good form coming to the final table but picked up pocket queens early on against AJs with an ace coming on the river to knock the poker brat out of the tournament.

Hellmuth Offered 800-1 Odds To Win WSOP Players Championship

Phil Hellmuth might be one of the best no limit hol’dem tournament players in the world, but he’s not so well known for his mixed games. He is however also very easy to wind up, and certain players such as Daniel Negreanu delight in provoking the Poker Brat. This week, at the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star event, Negreanu told Hellmuth that he is probably 800-1 to win the event, which replaces the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event. Apparently this lead to a discussion about a serious prop bet.

Poker Brats – High Emotions, Trash Talk and Blow Ups!

Playing poker can be a rollercoaster of emotions, from elation when you win a tournement to dispair at losing a big pot to a bad beat, but in general it’s good to keep your emotions in check. Going “on tilt” when you get unlucky not only tends to give away tells to the other players at your table, but also often clouds your judgement and causes you to make bad decisions.

Poker Superstars 3 – Gus Hansen Crazy Plays

What do you get what Gus Hansen sits at the table, needing to win in order to progress to the final 16, and decides to move all-in in every hand? Carnage!

Gus is behind in the tournemant and needs a first place finish to win, so right off the bat he tells the other players “do not raise my blinds”. Well he goes all-in preflop the first few hands and picks up quite a few chips, until he finally goes all-in against Phil Helmuth. Hellmuth has AJ suited and knowing that Hansen is playing super loose he calls, and gets knocked out when Hansen’s pocket deuces hit him a set on the flop!

Phil Hellmuth Jr

Phil Hellmuth Jr is best known for two things – his “Poker Brat” personality, and his exceptional skill at the table which has won him 11 World Series Of Poker bracelets andinduction to the Poker Hall Of Fame.

Chris Ferguson Out-draws Phil Hellmuth

KK vs AA vs AA

What a hand in this $3000 WSOP no limit holdem final table. Bret Richey holds pocket kings and raises to $80,000, but 2 other players at the table, Beth Shak and Phil Hellmuth BOTH have pocket aces! Now Shak goes all-in, and Hellmuth instantly calls her and then starts grandstanding with “one quarter of a second and I was all in”, parading around, giving Shak a high five, and Shak flashes to the crowd and starts signalling ACES to her husband in the audience. Somehow however, Richey is blinded to all this by his kings and deides to call – bad move as he doesn’t catch another king and is out!
