Phil Hellmuth giving tips for online poker play
OK so this video is way over produced with lots of flashy graphics and sound effects, but trust me it’s worth watching for the few nuggets of solid gold Phil gives in this video.
If you’ve not heard of Phil Hellmuth before (um – have you been living on mars?) he is one of the top players in the world, and one of the top poker authors too. He’s won an amazing and world record breaking 11 WSOP bracelets and won the main event on ‘89, so the guy really knows his poker!
Anyway, the real key points in this video is that firstly there are TONS of loose, crazy players online (“cyber poker” as Phil likes to call it), and secondly that most players are way too aggressive when playing online. His biggest tip is to sit back, be patient, wait for the best hand, let your opponents raise and beat them at the showdown!
Of course there are times you want to bet, times you want to raise, and even times you want to bluff online but 99% of online players call and bet too often in the online world – so slow it down, try to play the same online as you would offline, and maybe one day you’ll be the one with 11 bracelets!
