Chris Ferguson Outdraws Phil Hellmuth in the National Heads Up Championship
This was the final table of the National Heads Up Poker Championship. Phil Hellmuth vs Chris Ferguson. Hellmuth is dealt A-3 offsuit and completes the blinds for $4000. Ferguson gets 9-3 offsuit and raises to $28,000 which Hellmuth calls.
Now the flop comes 2h-5h-9c giving Hellmuth an inside straight draw, but Ferguson flops two pair!
The turn actually gives Hellmuth the straight with the 4h and he bets 40k. Chris Ferguson thinks on this and eventually raises to $120,000 and hellmuth goes all-in! Ferguson obviously has a hard decision here, thinking that Phil might have a flush… anyway he calls, and when the cards are flipped up Hellmuth is obviously pleased, knowing he’s a 91% favorite with only a 9 or a 2 able to help ferguson, then the river comes… and it’s a nine!
Well Phil drops to the floor, he can’t believe he was about to tin the tournament and instead doubles Ferguson up!
