Satellite Poker Tournaments

Playing satellite poker tournaments is something you might want to consider given how inexpensive they are to play. They can also be a very effective bankroll building strategy should you cash in the tournament you won entry into.

Winning a satellite tournament gives you the privilege of playing in another poker tournament with a much higher buy-in and higher pay out. Some online poker rooms let you play for tokens, and while these are also a type of satellite poker tournaments and effectively allow you to do the same thing, having a token in your account provides for more flexibility as to when you can spend it.

For example, if you see your favorite online poker room having a Sunday tournament where the cost is over two hundred bucks to get in, it is practically assured that you can play in a satellite tournament to win your entry cost to this tournament. Of course the advantage is that the satellite tournament might only cost a few bucks – sometimes they are even player point tourneys where you can get in for zilch or some of those player points you never use.

You have to win or place in a satellite to take advantage of this, but when you do win, it’s rather gratifying to appreciate that all of the other entrants in the satellite tournament assisted to pay your way into a major tournament. You may have to do this a few times before you make the money in a big-money tournament but even making the money in a five hundred dollar tournament is going to add a lot to your poker bankroll because you spent practically nothing to earn a few hundred bucks. This is one of the reasons why in some tournaments you see so many people hanging out just to make the money.

Your near-the-money strategy will likely need adjustments in satellites because they are normally not escalating once you make it. Especially in the case where only one player is going to triumph. There is significant aggression and ICM tactical play involved principally when you get down to three or four players remaining. So there is certainly a distinctive dynamic to deep strategy in these to keep in mind, and practice to make these profitable tournaments.
