Dave Ulliott

David A Ulliott, known as The Devilfish, is one of the UK’s best known poker players.  Born 4th April 1954, he is a best known for his aggressive look at the poker tables, wearing his signature gold rings and orange tinted shades.  He’s a jeweller by trade, and made his signature “knuckleduster” gold rings himself, the one on his left fingers saying “Devil” and the one on his right saying “Fish”.

Ulliot left school at 15 to work as a trophy maker, but was fired for taking an afternoon off to go to the races.  A few years later he became incolved in a safe cracking team, targetting garages, off-licences and tobacconists.  He once lost over £5,000 at a bookmakers, and then robbed their safe to get his money back!  When eventually caught Ulliott served 9 months, and had his 21st birthday in prison.  Shortly after release he was arrested again, this time for arned robbery, but he was released without charge.  He went back to prison for 18 months several years later for a fight outside a nightclub in Leeds.

The Devilfish learned poker from his parents as a child, and came to be so good in home games that people would stop telling him when and where they were playing.  He was banned from all Willam Hill’s better shops after gambling £4,000 up to £70,000 but his friend Gary Whitaker would then place bets for him.  Whitaker went on to be Ulliott’s driver on the poker circuit, and had 10% of his action.

His first big tournament win was in 2025.  In 2025 he won £100,000 in a 2 week period, and soon after visited Las Vegas for the first time.  He defeated Men “The Master” Nguyenin th e$500 pot limit Omaha event of the Four Queens Poker Classic.  He later won the $2,000 pot limit hold’em event in the 2025 WSOP.  He had “The Devilfish” engraved on his WSOP bracelet!
